is switzerland beautiful?

Posted on

Yes it certainly is.

We have only been here one week so far but have fallen head over heels for Switzerland. It seems that they may have missed summer this year, and will explain why we’ve had hit-and-miss weather. There’s been sunshine, cloud cover, rain, and we’ve even woken up one day with snow covering the mountaintops when we were in St Moritz.

But it doesn’t matter about the weather because it is a wonderful country regardless! It seems that every which way we turn there is something different to be in awe about. If it isn’t the scenery, it’s the history or the shopping or the restaurants. There is something here for everyone!

It amazes us how this small-in-size country, covering approximately 41 000 square metres, can have 4 official languages (German, French, Italian and Romansh) and everybody speaks at least one of these and English as well. It really is a melting pot of Central/Western Europe, being bordered by 5 countries; Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein.

Anyway, enough words from us for now as we don’t think any words are necessary to describe the natural beauty of Switzerland. We hope our photos (from our first week) speak for themselves and provide a glimpse into scenic Switzerland with its dramatic mountainous backdrops, lush green grass and expansive calm lakes!

I agree. Switzerland is a natural stunner. I’ve been before and would love to go back. I’d recommend that anyone planning to go takes lots of memory cards – so many photo opportunities!

Absolutely!! That is a very valid point about the memory cards 🙂
Switzerland is a small country in size but how grand is its beauty?! We can’t stop “oohing” and “aahing” 😉

We are totally in love with Switzerland – with the beautiful scenery, cheese and chocolate – what is there to complain about, right?? Thanks for your comment! Hope you have been well.

Thank you! We use a Canon Powershot S120 (a compact camera) – we do have an SLR but we don’t bring it travelling all the time as the weight puts us off. The S120 is amazing and has a really fast shutter speed for a compact camera. 🙂

Yep, we never tire of that scenery, and there are so few Swiss people to enjoy it, they need our help 😉 Just a note on expensive, we notice a sizeable difference between the Coop supermarkets and the restaurants – and that’s the same here and most other places too.

      wisemonkeysabroad responded:
      August 24, 2014 at 3:08 pm

Yes – we have discovered Coop and Migros which help with lunches and quick dinners at times to try and keep to below our budget 🙂 It is manageable! We just need to remember that we don’t usually eat out both lunch and dinner every day when we are not travelling. 🙂

Will you make it to Liechtenstein? It’s really beautiful there.

Wow, just wow! 🙂 Must visit some day! Is it as expensive as they say??

      wisemonkeysabroad responded:
      August 24, 2014 at 5:49 am

It is expensive when we convert back to Australian dollars or Euros. But if we take it for “face-value” as we would back home, it is comparable (If that makes sense). It is all relative so if we don’t convert – it is rather similar to Australia. (But people say Australia is expensive so maybe we are not the best people to answer) 😉

        Expat Eye said:
        August 24, 2014 at 5:50 am

Yeah, I’ve heard it’s quite expensive there now! I was there around 10 years ago and didn’t think it was so bad!

          wisemonkeysabroad responded:
          August 24, 2014 at 5:55 am

It does depend on conversion rate of currency. Australia dollar was pretty weak back in 2006 so we felt Europe was so expensive and now we feel it isn’t actually that bad. Last time we were here, we were getting 56 Euro cents to every Aussie dollar now we are getting close 70 Euro cents. So it is all relative. When we travel, we actually try NOT to think about converting and comparing. We take it for face value in that country. We find it easier 😉

Yeah, I still compare Latvia to Ireland and think it’s cheap. But by local standards, it’s super expensive!
