weekly photo challenge: yellow

Posted on

Show us what “yellow” means to you.

These are the words from the folks at the Daily Post for this week’s photo challenge.

We could hardly pass up the opportunity to share our first ever rubber duck race in Burgos, Spain during our Camino. The river was dotted yellow except for sections where the ducks got a little caught up with one another.

That was the close up!

And now for the view down the river.

IMG_5728One of the more quirky yet fun “events” we have seen.

Enjoy the weekend and week ahead!

We had never heard of it until that day when we turned up to the river only to find hundreds of people milling around. What a rather unusual and amusing thing to witness 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope you are well and have a wonderful festive season.

oh how fun = and what a great idea – we have seen these in pools but never open streams – 🙂

We had never seen anything like it so it certainly took us by surprise when we saw the crowds hovering over bridges and running alongside the river/stream. It was rather entertaining 🙂

Look at those rubber duckies go! All down the stream at their own pace! It reminds me of the rubber duck races in Sydney (along the harbour?) So cute 😀

      December 20, 2014 at 7:50 pm

We have NEVER seen the ones in Sydney – you got to be joking?! Sometimes we think that we live under a rock in Sydney – totally oblivious to what goes one around us! Hope you enjoy the festive season 🙂

        Nope. Have a look:

        http://www.au.timeout.com/sydney/aroundtown/events/36258/the-rubber-duck-race

There’s probably a few of these events around each year. Also I believe this year there was a giant rubber ducky down at Paramatta. Maybe you should try going down to one 🙂

Thanks Mabel. OMG – We are feeling totally sheepish right now that we overlook Sydney SO much. 2015 – we are going to have to play tourist in our city more…. let Sydney shine 🙂

Hope you get to see one of the duck races in Sydney soon. Bring your city to us 😀 Sometimes there are rubber duck races on Australia Day too (in the other states). That is very cool 🙂

Done! We will bring Sydney to our readers… or at least try to 🙂 We get so caught up on visiting places we haven’t been that we forget there is a city to see right on our doorstep. Thanks Mabel for reminding us and for giving us the nudge.

The most quirky thing I’ve seen was a cane toad race in North Queensland. The person who bet on the winner had to kiss it. Ugh!

They are not attractive critters: http://www.picsearch.com/Cane-Toads-pictures.html

Yikes!! Kissing cane toads?? No way – that is not an incentive to win… 😉 That is definitely a quirky kinds race and prize!

      wisemonkeysabroad responded:

It was amusing 🙂 We had no idea what was going on… in the distance, we could see these little yellow things heading downstream so we asked a local what was going on and he explained a duck race… and we thought they were REAL ducks until we saw what they really were! Hehehe.

Thanks for stopping by and we hope you have a wonderful festive season.

In my hometown they have a duck race in the city pond as well. However it is pretty boring compared to a race in a river!
