weekly photo challenge: threshold

Posted on

A threshold is a point of entering: that point just before a new beginning.

Krista Stevens at The Daily Post set the challenge this week: THRESHOLD.

We’ve chosen the Great Torii for this week’s theme – found at Miyajima Island, Japan.

This iconic Japanese gateway marks the boundary between the spirit and human world.

Hi there! This is a gorgeous picture! My husband has seen this in person. He was an Army officer and lived in Japan for 4 years.

Really?? How very cool! And have you visited Japan? Or has he ever been back since?

I’ve not been there. 😦 This was before we were together. He lived there from ’86-’90 and hasn’t had the opportunity to go back. He loved it there and would love to take me sometime in the future.

          Make sure he does 😉
You will enjoy it – culture, history, food, efficiency, people. Actually can’t really find any negatives about it 🙂

He LOVED the people and tells us so many stories about how gracious and friendly they are. He also loved the food. 🙂

and I know the other reader said he would have liked to have seen the water a bit more – but I would have liked to have seen some of the clutter -because I kind of like that in photos – but really enjoyed the cropped version here. 😉

Guess it could add character – After looking back at the original – the water looked so dirty and dodgy 😉

Nice shot. I would have liked to see a little more expanded (water) foreground.

Hi Rick, thanks for swinging by. This photo was taken back in 2008 when we weren’t really too interested in photography so there was a lot of “clutter” in the foreground – hence needed to be cropped for the challenge! 🙂
But will definitely keep in mind for future similar shots!

Beautiful! Miyajima is a very special place – when I visited one Christmas, it was snowing very lightly giving the island a magical light!
