weekly photo challenge: shadowed

Shadowed:
– to cast a shadow on; darken or shade
– to make gloomy or troubled

We took this photo when we were in Bruges, Belgium back in 2006 at the Sand Sculpture Festival.

This really interested me as shadows, and the interplay between dark and light play a bit part in my writing.

Great photo! We went to the Sand Sculpture Festival too, in 2013. It was the second last day, pouring rain and very cold, so there was hardly anyone there. It was great!

Thank you 🙂 Oh wow – so that was only recently!!! Was it indoors? Because ours was mostly indoors!! Enjoy your weekend.

That’s amazing – but in kind of an eerie way!

Totally agree about the eeriness. When we chose it, we didn’t think twice but the more , we look… the more sinister it looks, right?
Hope you have a lovely week ahead 🙂

I think your photo definitely nailed it! What a great sculpture. It doesn’t even look like sand! Happy new year by the way! 🙂

Absolutely amazing that these could be made from sand!

Hi Sue! There were so many others that were HUGE – we couldn’t believe how talented the sculptors are. Thanks for visiting 🙂

Yep- your selection does both! A fun reminder of sand castle contests held on the Oregon Coast in the summer!!!
    Intriguing choice-

Thanks Jane! We wanted a pictured that portrayed both meanings and when we dug around our archives, we found this one, which felt right for the challenge.
Off to check out your entry now!

Hey there Yvette. You don’t find the one eye “shadowed” a little creepy??

well i do after seeing the floe up version and after coming to the post – but form the reader – the warm light seemed like an artsy take on a sculpture.

Artsy is a nice way of putting it 🙂 Hope you enjoyed the weekend!

Interesting choice, wise monkeys. I thought it was a bit eerie that one eye was sticking out and the other shadowed…But I’m sure in reality that was a marvelous sculpture to look at. Blame the lighting 🙂

      wisemonkeysabroad responded:
      January 10, 2015 at 9:34 pm

Indeed – we agree that the photo is a little unnerving! The whole hidden eye and the lighting definitely gives off a sinister feel. It was back in 2006 – so we cannot remember this particular sculpture in terms of “eeriness” but we certainly remember that the sand sculptures as a whole, were marvellous 🙂
Hope you have a great Sunday planned!

At least the grandeur of it all stayed with you. A sign of a memorable trip!

Don’t have much planned tomorrow. Going to enjoy it before real life kicks in Monday :/ Hope you have a great rest of weekend, Monkeys! 🙂

Great capture, you nailed the Challenge brief perfectly – love the highlight on the eye in the sculpture. I loved this weeks challenge, gave me a chance to dig really deep in my photography archives.

Thank you! We found this week a real challenge…. but it’s great fun sorting through photos. And as we said to some other readers, we had forgotten about this collection of photos until today. That is why we love these challenges… PS Loved your photos for the challenge 🙂

Hi Janet, That is SAND! How incredible, huh? We had totally forgotten about these set of photos until we were trawling through the “archives” for something suitable for this theme 🙂 And honestly? We are a little creeped out ourselves by this photo! Hope you are well and have a lovely weekend!

      wisemonkeysabroad responded:

It is a little! We don’t think it was intended to be spooky but because it was “shadowed”, it has portrayed the image that way!
