weekly photo challenge: early bird
We’ve been a little quiet on the blog the past fortnight as we have been on a family road trip to Victoria (and back), internet was not very stable at some stops.
But we are back and luckily, we were able to catch an “early bird” moment to share. For the first time ever, we witnessed a beach sunrise.
This was taken at Pambula Beach, down the South Coast of NSW, Australia.

Wow! The colors look gorgeous; especially the yellow tint of the sun in the orange.

Thank you so much for your kind comment 🙂
April 20, 2015 at 9:03 pm
I would say sunrise, because it’s difficult for me to stay awake late :p
April 21, 2015 at 8:50 pm
You are quite the early bird then 🙂 Being on the east coast of Australia we are much better placed to witness sunrises but this was our first ever!
April 21, 2015 at 8:55 pm
haha yes ! There is a saying in French, and the translation means “go to bed with the chickens”. People always think that of me. I’m not an evening person 😀
For a first, it’s a famous one 🙂 Very vibrant !
April 20, 2015 at 5:56 pm
Such a stunning beach sunrise! I’ve always been more of a sunset person which is just as well since I’m definitely not known for being the early bird though maybe if I could actually force myself out of bed and out of my PJs to see something like this, I’d be converted to a sunrise person 😀
April 21, 2015 at 8:52 pm
Yes, we are the same!! Sunsets all the way but we were only metres from the beach so we had no excuse. And after witnessing lots of sunrises last year when we were in Europe, we began loving sunrises but just can’t bring ourselves to do it often 😉
April 20, 2015 at 12:19 pm
I’m rarely awake at sunrise, but seeing pictures like this makes me think I should wake up early more often!
April 21, 2015 at 8:54 pm
Waking up to see a sunrise does take a bit of effort but very worth it 🙂
April 19, 2015 at 5:36 pm
Sunrise and sunset both are always stunning! Like this sunrise. ❤
But if I could wake up early each morning, I'd prefer to catch up with sunrise.
April 21, 2015 at 9:03 pm
Very true, Yuna!! Both are fabulous to witness 🙂 Hope you are well.
April 22, 2015 at 6:00 pm
Agree! I’m doing well, wish you both are well too. 🙂
April 19, 2015 at 8:23 am
I love seeing both and am usually up early enough to see the sunrise from our kitchen window, which is lovely. This one’s a beauty…well done.
April 21, 2015 at 9:04 pm
Wow!! To witness a sunrise from your window, now we are totally envious 😉
Thanks for the compliment re our photo!
April 21, 2015 at 9:07 pm
The elevated position is one of the things we love about our home and having a great view makes up for the many very windy days we have!
April 22, 2015 at 9:37 pm
Nice!!! No flooding issues for you being elevated. After what Sydney copped this week in winds and rain … we’ve had our fair share for a while 😉 We are very lucky where we are, we haven’t had any damage. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
April 22, 2015 at 9:45 pm
This is true! When Toowoomba flooded back in 2011 we were well out of it, thank goodness.
I’m glad to hear you are safe and sound. It sounds like it’s been horrendous across NSW. I hope the worst is over for everybody.

My sunrise photos are few and far between: my sunsets in multitudes. But is that a comment on when I am out and about or preference? 🙂 Nice photo. –Curt
April 21, 2015 at 9:05 pm
Very very very wise words Curt! We have plenty of sunsets too and very few sunrises in our collection. We just don’t have it in us to wake up early often for sunrises 😉 Hope you are well! And warming up in your part of the world.

It was 80 plus yesterday. 🙂 –Curt
April 22, 2015 at 9:35 pm
Right!! If you haven’t seen yet… google Sydney wild weather so you can see what we’ve been getting 😉
April 23, 2015 at 3:01 am
Will do. 🙂
April 18, 2015 at 11:27 pm
I like them both because the colors are so different. This is a wonderful photo – looks like the sky is on fire with a jolt of lightening because of the excitement for the start of a new day. 🙂
April 21, 2015 at 9:07 pm
Thanks for your lovely words. It seems very much like a lightning bolt… we never noticed it 🙂
April 18, 2015 at 6:28 pm
Definitely a sunrise person. The early morning fills me with energy, anticipation and joy. It is cool, and the day is full of promise, not disappointment or regret. Bring on the next sunrise
April 18, 2015 at 11:06 pm
That is such a wonderful way to see the sunrise – and you know what?!! When we took this photo, we said to one another what a blessing it was to witness the sunrise because it does give a sense of “NEW” and “FRESH START” – there is something about seeing the sun wake up too 🙂
Thanks for sharing your positive thoughts!
April 18, 2015 at 4:21 pm
I think I never have any early bird moments except when the neighbors are too noisy in the morning 🙂
April 18, 2015 at 11:03 pm
LOL – as we have gotten older, we find that getting up early means we can make the most of the day! But, it isn’t often that we can get up early enough for a sunrise – this was one of those rare occasions 🙂
April 18, 2015 at 4:09 pm
Amazing sunrise, Monkeys. Simply stunning and wow. I’m more of a sunset person since I feel more active later in the day and can concentrate on what I’m doing. But now that the sun is rising later as winter approaches, maybe I will find the strength to get up and view more sunrises. Hope your trip was great and you enjoyed it heaps 🙂
April 18, 2015 at 11:05 pm
Mabel!!! How are you? We enjoyed Victoria so much. We were there only for 4 days or so and had a lot of family time so didn’t do much beyond Werribee where we stayed 🙂 We only ducked into Melbourne city for one night for dinner and that was it. Next time, we are down there, we will HAVE to meet up with you for a coffee or a bite!
PS – Sunsets were always our thing until on the Camino we witnessed the most magnificence sunrises that now we are torn as to which are better. But when it comes to preferences, sunsets are easier and more manageable for us to witness 😉
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!
April 19, 2015 at 7:37 pm
That is so good you two enjoyed your trip here so much. Next time you’re in town or when I’m in your side of town, we certainly have to catch up – two wise monkeys and one honorary wise monkey, how cool is that 😀
Sunrises and sunsets are both beautiful. Not one is the same and so all are special and deserved to be witness when we can.
Winter hit us this weekend…hope it’s still warm for you monkeys!
April 21, 2015 at 9:02 pm
Have you seen the crazy Sydney weather?!! We are being battered with wind and rain. So winter is VERY much here!!
Yes – definitely let us know when you are in Sydney next. We will catch up 🙂 We need to inaugurate you as the third wise monkey!! 😛
April 21, 2015 at 11:53 pm
The third wise monkey is snowed under with work and I’ve just read the news. I hope you two are safe and hold onto each other.
I can’t wait for the inauguration 😉

Sunset is more likely for me, but I know what I am missing when I see work like this. Back in the pre digital days, I had a great sunrise in Napier, NZ. Nothing like being on the east coast, eh?
April 18, 2015 at 11:02 pm
Yes!! We do prefer sunsets because we cannot seem to get up in time to witness a sunrise from a decent spot. Staying not far from the beach meant we could literally roll out of bed and down onto the sand to watch it. It was worth it!! 🙂
April 18, 2015 at 9:47 am
Lovely pic! I’m both but I am rarely up early enough to enjoy the sunrise!
April 18, 2015 at 11:00 pm
Thank you so much! We struggle to get up in time to get to a vantage point for the sunrise but when we were sleeping only about 500 metres from the beach, there was simply no excuse 😉
April 18, 2015 at 9:24 am
Gorgeous!
April 18, 2015 at 11:00 pm
Thanking you 🙂

Reblogged this on nealstotts.

I’m both. 🙂 This one’s lovely.

April 18, 2015 at 8:43 am
Thanks Janet!! We are beginning to appreciate sunrises more now 🙂
April 18, 2015 at 8:29 am
I do both, but have probably enjoyed more sunsets than sunrises. Beautiful!
April 18, 2015 at 8:43 am
Yes, we are the same. We’ve always preferred sunsets but recently.. sunrises have been our thing 🙂
