is switzerland beautiful?
Yes it certainly is.
We have only been here one week so far but have fallen head over heels for Switzerland. It seems that they may have missed summer this year, and will explain why we’ve had hit-and-miss weather. There’s been sunshine, cloud cover, rain, and we’ve even woken up one day with snow covering the mountaintops when we were in St Moritz.
But it doesn’t matter about the weather because it is a wonderful country regardless! It seems that every which way we turn there is something different to be in awe about. If it isn’t the scenery, it’s the history or the shopping or the restaurants. There is something here for everyone!
It amazes us how this small-in-size country, covering approximately 41 000 square metres, can have 4 official languages (German, French, Italian and Romansh) and everybody speaks at least one of these and English as well. It really is a melting pot of Central/Western Europe, being bordered by 5 countries; Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein.
Anyway, enough words from us for now as we don’t think any words are necessary to describe the natural beauty of Switzerland. We hope our photos (from our first week) speak for themselves and provide a glimpse into scenic Switzerland with its dramatic mountainous backdrops, lush green grass and expansive calm lakes!
If you haven’t been to Switzerland, add it to your list!

Yes – Switzerland does do that to you 🙂
August 26, 2014 at 5:34 am
I agree. Switzerland is a natural stunner. I’ve been before and would love to go back. I’d recommend that anyone planning to go takes lots of memory cards – so many photo opportunities!
August 26, 2014 at 5:45 am
Absolutely!! That is a very valid point about the memory cards 🙂
Switzerland is a small country in size but how grand is its beauty?! We can’t stop “oohing” and “aahing” 😉

Wow – you live that close!! Wow – we could’ve ducked on over and visited you, seeing as we got to go to Tirano and Lake Como (it was only for a day though). We are totally in love with Switzerland – with the beautiful scenery, cheese and chocolate – what is there to complain about, right?? Thanks for your comment! Hope you have been well.
August 26, 2014 at 2:19 am

And Zurich – how can a fairly big city be so clean?!
August 25, 2014 at 2:35 am
So very true! How does an entire country stay so clean? 😉
August 24, 2014 at 6:16 pm

That’s a rhetorical question, right? If not, the answer is: yes.
August 25, 2014 at 2:35 am
LOL – definitely rhetorical 🙂 The answer is a no-brainer!!! How can anyone not love this place?? 🙂
August 24, 2014 at 3:43 pm
Beautiful captures as always! What camera do you use if I may ask. Thank you.
August 25, 2014 at 2:38 am
Thank you! We use a Canon Powershot S120 (a compact camera) – we do have an SLR but we don’t bring it travelling all the time as the weight puts us off. The S120 is amazing and has a really fast shutter speed for a compact camera. 🙂

Switzerland has been on my dream list since i was a little girl and read Heidi. Enjoy the beautiful Alps.
August 24, 2014 at 2:49 pm
Thank you 🙂 We did get to pass through Heidiland a few days ago 😉
August 24, 2014 at 12:13 pm
It’s beautiful, I’ve been there in the winter, love it!
August 24, 2014 at 3:07 pm
Ooh – we would love to see it in winter 🙂 But we are not very good in the cold!! So maybe when we are brave enough!!!
August 24, 2014 at 11:58 am
Yep, we never tire of that scenery, and there are so few Swiss people to enjoy it, they need our help 😉 Just a note on expensive, we notice a sizeable difference between the Coop supermarkets and the restaurants – and that’s the same here and most other places too.
August 24, 2014 at 3:08 pm
Yes – we have discovered Coop and Migros which help with lunches and quick dinners at times to try and keep to below our budget 🙂 It is manageable! We just need to remember that we don’t usually eat out both lunch and dinner every day when we are not travelling. 🙂
August 24, 2014 at 4:35 pm
So true! We long for the simple home made sandwich after a couple of weeks 🙂
August 25, 2014 at 2:36 am
We certainly do! Home-cooked meals and our own bed are usually the things we look forward to when we arrive back in Sydney (after hugging the family of course).

It is, isn’t it? Have you got a favourite place in Switzerland? Loving visiting all the different UNESCO sites 🙂
August 24, 2014 at 10:23 pm
I mainly just love being in the mountains. Not sure if you caught this post a few months back: http://jaspasjourney.wordpress.com/2014/06/13/fresh-summer-memories-from-the-swiss-alps/
Will you make it to Liechtenstein? It’s really beautiful there.
We did quite a few UNESCO sites on our recent trip too. Keep your eyes peeled from upcoming posts!
August 25, 2014 at 2:27 am
Awesome!!! No – unfortunately, won’t be getting to Liechtenstein. Read so many different blogs – can’t remember if we have read your post. Will visit it now to read 🙂
August 24, 2014 at 10:13 am
Aw, really beautiful. ❤ ❤
August 24, 2014 at 3:09 pm
We are so in awe with it here in every way 🙂
August 24, 2014 at 9:28 am
Such beautiful photos! I have been twice to Switzerland, to Zurich and Lake Lucerne. Both fantastic places 🙂 What’s the name of that lake on the way to Tirano?
August 24, 2014 at 3:15 pm
We think its Lake Poschiavo – the colour of the water was so mesmerising! 🙂 Thanks for your comment!
August 24, 2014 at 6:26 am
been there ! ! it is beautiful ! ! So postcard pretty.
August 24, 2014 at 6:39 am
Isn’t it just?!! We love it 🙂
August 24, 2014 at 5:42 am
Wow, just wow! 🙂 Must visit some day! Is it as expensive as they say??
August 24, 2014 at 5:49 am
It is expensive when we convert back to Australian dollars or Euros. But if we take it for “face-value” as we would back home, it is comparable (If that makes sense). It is all relative so if we don’t convert – it is rather similar to Australia. (But people say Australia is expensive so maybe we are not the best people to answer) 😉
August 24, 2014 at 5:50 am
Yeah, I’ve heard it’s quite expensive there now! I was there around 10 years ago and didn’t think it was so bad!
August 24, 2014 at 5:55 am
It does depend on conversion rate of currency. Australia dollar was pretty weak back in 2006 so we felt Europe was so expensive and now we feel it isn’t actually that bad. Last time we were here, we were getting 56 Euro cents to every Aussie dollar now we are getting close 70 Euro cents. So it is all relative. When we travel, we actually try NOT to think about converting and comparing. We take it for face value in that country. We find it easier 😉
August 24, 2014 at 6:01 am
Yeah, I still compare Latvia to Ireland and think it’s cheap. But by local standards, it’s super expensive!
August 24, 2014 at 4:42 am
Beautiful pictures! Switzerland is absolutely gorgeous… 🙂
