walking the camino: photo essay (part 3 of 3)
So it is all over! Now that we have completed the Camino, we can share the final instalment to our photo essays. If you have not seen the other 2 parts, part 1 covers St Jean Pied de Port to Belorado and part 2 covers Belorado to Astorga.
This final series is from Astorga to Santiago de Compostela.
Hope you enjoy the photos.
And as we are now not focusing on walking the Camino, we are back in full swing in the blogosphere once more π
Enjoy your week ahead!
As always, we welcome your comments.

Lovely pictures, all of them, but I’m really surprised to see that no one commented on that mushroom that looks like it came directly from Mario Bros! Did you see a lot of them?
November 25, 2014 at 11:59 am
LOL – Shelly, we think SO alike! We thought of Mario Bros too when we saw these mushrooms. We thought they were only in fairy tales π
We didn’t see many, this one was the most whole and large one we saw!
Thanks for your comment π

So happy to hear you enjoyed the photo essay! π
Hope to see you here often!
October 28, 2014 at 2:06 am
I am speechless (hardly ever happens) ha! – but I love your photo essay – the little umbrella selfie was perfectly placed – but I have so many feelings after soaking this essay up – will be back later to comment – for now, just want to enjoy the viewing and let it resonate – cheers.
October 28, 2014 at 5:44 am
Thank you for your comment, we found your words so touching! The walk it self stirred up a lot of emotions (all positive) and even now looking back at the moments and experiences, it is sentimental for us π
October 28, 2014 at 1:11 am
Well done guys, what an adventure!! Love the sunsets and I really like that photo with all the pumpkins π
October 28, 2014 at 5:42 am
Thank you π Everything around us was just perfect and we just wanted to capture it!
October 27, 2014 at 9:28 pm
Wonderful photos there and congratulations on completing the walk. It must have been an amazing feeling. I don’t think I would want to do all of it, but certainly a part of it. What an adventure. Well done guys. π
October 28, 2014 at 5:41 am
It was an unbelievable feeling the entire way! We don’t think our lives can be the same again π The people we met, the lessons we learnt! The 800km was worth every step!
October 27, 2014 at 8:05 pm
It should have been a great experience. I hope to have the chance to do it soon!
October 28, 2014 at 5:39 am
It was certainly an incredible experience and we hope that you do have a chance to do it one day π
October 25, 2014 at 8:16 am
Wow, great job! I love your photos. Walking the camino is one of my biggest dreams. I really hope 2015 is the year! How many days did you use?
October 26, 2014 at 10:01 pm
Hi Renate, Firstly, we would like to say that it is amazing your name Is Renate because on our third last day of our walk, we met a lovely German lady by the exact same name and we were asking her how to spell it because we had never heard it before π And secondly, thank you for you compliments!
We hope you do get to experience the Camino one day. We met a young woman on the walk who said to us, “We don’t choose to do the Camino, it chooses us.” So whenever it is meant to be, you will know, and so 2015 may be your year where everything falls into place for you to go!
We took 43 days but that included 6 or so rest days. Our advice for you: it is your Camino and you do it however you want. So take as slow or as fast as your body and mind allows (but obviously if your have a time limit then that too will a determining factor). Happy for you to contact us if you have any questions!
October 23, 2014 at 10:11 pm
Great job guys! Beautiful sights and those smiles on your faces tell all – it was well worth the walk π
October 24, 2014 at 3:04 am
Thank you π Those smiles appeared after our tears of joy seconds beforehand!!

All your photos are beautiful….but for sure the last one says it all!!! Great job!!!!
October 22, 2014 at 6:35 pm
Thanks Diana – we don’t often share photos of ourselves on the blog but we had to in this instance. The moment was too unforgettable to not share π
October 22, 2014 at 4:56 pm
Wow, amazing! Did the weather cooperate throughout?
October 22, 2014 at 5:18 pm
It pretty much did the entire way. Out of the 45 or so days of the Camino, we had 2-3 “drizzly” half days which we can’t even call rain, we had 1 full day of drizzle and then 1 day of constant heavy rain – that was the FUN day (no joke!). We were splashing and sloshing through puddles and mud π It was actually our second last day, so we didn’t really mind. Any other time, and it could’ve been a pain because the boots never dried out!
Hope you have been well!
October 22, 2014 at 4:47 pm
Fantastic photos, as usual, and what a great achievement. Well done. Pretty as they may be, I hope you left the caterpillars behind π
October 22, 2014 at 5:16 pm
Hi Ken,
We certainly left them behind, along with the snake, slugs and other bugs! We think Australian customs would have something to say if we had stowaways on us π
Hope you have been well! Now we are back, we will have to duck on over to your blog and do some catching up ourselves!
October 22, 2014 at 2:55 pm
Triple WOW! Great photos. Thanks for taking me along on the journey. Looking forward to your next adventures. βCurt
October 22, 2014 at 5:14 pm
Thanks Curt π We are in Paris now to wind down (if we can call it that here) π
But then it is homeward bound to plan the next trip but we still have SO much more to share about this trip…That will keep us busy!
Hope you had a great weekend!
October 23, 2014 at 2:54 am
Get the having more to share. π I always have a hard time ending up on a series to move on to the next. What to leave out is always the question. βCurt

Hi Mia, The Camino for us was such a meaningful experience. Visual representations can really help describe the experience, right? We will send you an email to discuss sharing our photos. Cheers.

October 22, 2014 at 8:54 pm
I hope you enjoy catching up. I’m still writing about WA but soon I will start a new series on Tokyo, where I spent 8 amazing days earlier this month. Happy reading.
October 23, 2014 at 6:53 am
Wow – you lucky thing! Constantly travelling π Look forward to your Tokyo posts !
October 23, 2014 at 7:02 am
Ha! It might seem that way, but I do go to work in term time. I look forward to retirement with great relish, because then the travelling will really start!
I went to Tokyo with my sister in the school holidays, and it was a spur of the moment trip because Jetstar had a weekend special, with two for one flight deals from the Gold Coast to Tokyo…how lucky! We had a fantastic time and I would love to go again and take my husband.
October 23, 2014 at 7:54 am
Wow – you got such a good deal during school holidays?!! Man, that is lucky! We totally need to keep our eyes MORE peeled for these type of deals!
October 23, 2014 at 10:04 pm
I know! I didn’t expect the special price to be available in the holidays but it was so we took advantage of it.We also stayed at a lovely airbnb apartment which was tiny but beautifully set up and a great price. We had a wonderful week…stories to follow soon.

October 22, 2014 at 5:20 pm
Thank you so much for your lovely words π We feel so humbled to have been able to complete the Camino especially when we think about how many millions of other pilgrims over the centuries have done the same!
October 22, 2014 at 12:39 am
Wow!! Sounds (and looks!) like it was really quite a journey! I’ve got some friends who have done it, but for now I’m happy to live vicariously through your and your photos. Thanks for sharing π

Hi Dana. Thanks for your comment. It was an incredible journey that we were so pleased to have gone on. We gained so much from doing it – definitely life-altering π
Hopefully one day, you may feel compelled to do it too as we did!
October 21, 2014 at 11:40 pm
Congrats on finishing and thank you for sharing these photos! They are gorgeous. I especially love the one of the bridge into Molinaseca; it was one of my favorite towns and I never took a photo, so to see it here brings back some great memories. π
October 22, 2014 at 12:40 am
Thanks Nadine! That was one of our favourite bridges and towns too π We were so glad we stayed there overnight…. so picturesque!
We just cannot believe it is all over!

great effort I feel like you walked a thousand kilometres. Actually, I feel like I did. Gosh I’m tired!
loved the pics!
October 21, 2014 at 4:08 pm
Well, we were only 200-odd km short of 1000 km and not to mention all the walking we did on rest days as well as within each of the towns and cities! If we were to tally it all up, we are sure we would be close π
Glad to read that you enjoyed the pics! Hope you have been well.
October 21, 2014 at 1:50 pm
Your smiles says it all – congratulations on reaching your goal!
October 21, 2014 at 4:07 pm

It was, as you say, an amazing journey for us on so many levels – physically, emotionally and mentally! There is so much more we hope we can still share, possibly for the weekly photo challenges, if the theme suits!

Well done! You have such a wide range of photos to keep your memories alive.
I’ve sent the link of your post to the fellow in England who did this (Bert by name). I think he’ll really enjoy walking along with you!

We hope it sends Bert down memory lane as it did for us as we chose the photos. Even when we look at our other Camino friends’ photos, it definitely takes us back π
