weekly photo challenge: depth
Depth can be the distance between the front to the end of something…
So we are showing the depth of a trdelnik – a sweet pastry made from rolled dough, wrapped around a stick, grilled and then covered with sugar/cinnamon.
We had one of these every day when we were in Czech Republic. YUM!
Have you ever had one of these before?
How has everyone interpreted depth? Check it out here.
Please leave your thoughts.

Great photo. Have only heard about the deliciousness of the trdelnik and look forward to giving one a try. Is the taste similar to country fair funnel cake?
February 7, 2015 at 8:32 am
We’ve only had funnel cake once and we don’t recall it tasting the same. Hmmm… trying to think about how best to describe the taste. The outside is crispy and the inside is soft. Similar to maybe a really really thin donut but with a “crunch” on the outside. But it’s not oily because it’s not deep-fried.
Don’t think we are describing it very well, so we hope one day you get to taste it 🙂
February 5, 2015 at 2:16 am
Just the perfect shot hahaha
I love this pastry, in Germany we call it Baumstrietzel 😀
February 5, 2015 at 8:06 am
Oooh – we didn’t realise Germany had it too… and a much easier pronunciation at that 😉 Time for us to pay Germany a visit!!
February 5, 2015 at 8:16 pm
hahaha yes, I guess sometimes German isnt that bad compared to other languages!
I hope you do come, I would love to meet you both in person 😀
February 5, 2015 at 9:55 pm
Yes, it would be fabulous to come to Germany and visit you and all the other German bloggers we have met online 🙂 You all are soooo lovely!
February 8, 2015 at 12:20 am

February 3, 2015 at 1:00 am
I’ve seen some in Budapest but I’ve never tried any !
February 4, 2015 at 7:57 am
It was rather funny the first time we saw it in Budapest, we thought it was pork crackle! And then we braved to try it one day and was totally worth it 🙂
February 2, 2015 at 11:32 pm
This is great, I love that it’s a humorous response to the prompt, as it’s naturally caused most to think of taking very emotive and emotional photos, but this is such a different take it stands out. Plus it’s making me very hungry 🙂
February 4, 2015 at 7:58 am
Thanks Laura! We appreciate comments such as these 🙂 It always makes us smile and feel rather accomplished!
February 2, 2015 at 9:55 am
Looks delicious! Did you take a bite before taking the photo? 🙂
February 4, 2015 at 8:00 am
Hahaha – YES we did take a bite… can you tell? 😉 After we bit into it, we thought we better take a photo for memories sake. Then as we positioned it, the taxi drove into view!!
February 4, 2015 at 10:16 am
I thought there might be a piece missing in that photo 🙂
February 2, 2015 at 1:07 am
Cute photo!
February 4, 2015 at 8:01 am
Thanks Celia 🙂
February 1, 2015 at 6:30 pm
Fun photo… I bet the trdelnik is good in the depths of one’s tummy as well! Sounds good.
February 1, 2015 at 6:57 pm
Yes, Jane! Definitely VERY good in the depths of our tummies 🙂 Hope you are having an amazing weekend.
February 1, 2015 at 11:09 am
Capturing the car in the perfect spot makes this shot great.
February 1, 2015 at 6:50 pm
Thank you! The timing was impeccable and so when we went to take a photo of the trdelnik, we caught a glimpse of the car approaching and then just timed it. We were surprised at how it turned out 🙂
February 1, 2015 at 8:00 am
Fun!

Nice shot, Monkeys, Yummy too!
February 1, 2015 at 6:51 pm
We appreciate you saying so.. and yes… absolutely yummy! 😉
January 31, 2015 at 7:52 pm
Fabulously creative idea for this theme! Can you believe even though I have such a sweet tooth, I only found out about Trdelnik last year meaning that when I was in Prague many years ago, I totally missed out on trying these 😦 Looks so good!!
February 1, 2015 at 6:57 pm
Noooooooo!! You missed out on trying these for all those years 😉 Oh, well better late than never. Now is the time to make up for it. We discovered these in Budapest in 2006, and then found some guys here who had a stall here at a local market! We came back almost every week to get them…. until we thought that was a little overkill. Then when we were in Czech Republic again in 2014… we overdosed on them 😉
January 31, 2015 at 6:11 pm
How on earth do you pronounce that word? It does sound delicious.
February 1, 2015 at 6:48 pm
Hahaahah…. we have no idea. We always said, “Can we have one of those?” And pointed at it. LOL! Every time we look at the word, we think “tradelink” spelled wrong 😉
February 1, 2015 at 6:52 pm
Well I’m not sure you should be allowed to eat it if you can’t say it! :))
February 1, 2015 at 6:58 pm
Hahahahaha – that would be devastating! Wonder if Suri can pronounce it on our iPhone 😉
February 1, 2015 at 7:31 pm
Maybe. Would that be cheating though? ?
February 4, 2015 at 8:01 am
Yeh, it would be! Man, you are tough 😉
February 4, 2015 at 8:19 am
Envy could be playing a part in my thoughts!
February 3, 2015 at 4:13 am
I see trade link too!
February 4, 2015 at 7:55 am

January 31, 2015 at 3:14 pm
Mmmmmm. Cool perspective.

February 1, 2015 at 6:48 pm
Thanks Janet! Hope your weekend is treating you well!
January 31, 2015 at 3:09 pm
This is a super shot. So fun to see you positioned it so the taxi was in focus too 😀 I’ve never had one of these things in my life, but it sounds delicious, like it tastes like a doughnut. It looks quite small, and I think I could eat five in one go 😉
February 1, 2015 at 6:55 pm
Heya Mabel. How are you? These are soooo yummy! They are not as dense as a doughnut and they are crispy… Hmmm… we want some now! If you have Kurtosh in Melbourne… that is where you can buy these. Not AS good as the ones we have tried overseas but still tasty enough to try and to fill the void for us 😉
PS – that taxi thing was just timing. We were surprised at the outcome of this picture. Timing is everything, isn’t it?
Hope you are having a happy weekend!
February 2, 2015 at 10:04 pm
Timing is certainly everything. Now I want a doughnut, the fancy kind 😉
February 4, 2015 at 7:58 am
Hahah – Krispy Kreme then?? 😉
February 4, 2015 at 10:36 pm
The last two times I had Krispy Kremes were big disappointments. Got them from the city and the doughnuts weren’t soft, a bit hard in fact
I now prefer buying my doughnuts from a place called Short Stop. They sell cake doughnuts
February 5, 2015 at 8:15 am
Totally, Krispy Kreme was “exciting” when it came to Sydney 10 years ago and then the excitement wore off pretty quickly….. YUM! We better add that place to our list when we are next in Melbourne 🙂
January 31, 2015 at 12:43 pm
Yes! 🙂 they were wicked good, those kurtoskalacs.
February 1, 2015 at 6:47 pm
LOOOOOOOVE them so much!! We have a Kurtosh shop that we pick them up from… but they are not quite like they are over there in Czech Republic or Hungary. We tried it the first time back in 2006 in Hungary and were in love 🙂
January 31, 2015 at 12:04 pm
I love it! 🙂
February 1, 2015 at 6:46 pm
Hey Mani! Hehehe – we wanted to take the opportunity to share something we LOVE as well as the theme to the best we could 🙂
January 31, 2015 at 9:35 am
Great shot!
February 1, 2015 at 6:45 pm
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment! Hope you are having a fabulous weekend.
January 31, 2015 at 8:47 am
Cant wait to try one of these….cinnamon on anything is delicious.
February 1, 2015 at 6:45 pm
Oooh – you must try one! You are in Australia, right? Not sure whether you are near one, but you can pay a visit to Kurtosh… they sell the same type of stuff and a lot of other delicious sweets and pastries. Hungarians have an identical type of sweet pastry. Hope you get to try one soon 🙂
February 4, 2015 at 8:18 pm
I have seen the Hungarian ones. I will give them a go next time!
February 5, 2015 at 8:18 am
You must do 😉
January 31, 2015 at 8:31 am
Fun perspective, guys. Creative. –Curt
February 1, 2015 at 6:42 pm
