walking the camino: photo essay (part 1 of 3)

Posted on Updated on

Here is a selection of our photos from 12 days of walking the Camino! As we are walking for 36 days, the photos will be split into three parts.

These photos were taken from St Jean Pied de Port to Belorado – approximately 238 km into Camino Frances.

Ahhh – yes! We did hear along the Camino, that we don’t choose to do the Camino, it chooses us! So you never know – you may too one day might feel compelled to experience it yourself 🙂

Trust us, it will choose you when you least expect it. Only last year, we were making a pact that we would do the Camino before we turn 40…. and next thing you know we somehow decided to so it this year. Now done and dusted, we really cannot explain what truly spurred us on – it just happened! 😉

Love all of these photos guys but I have to say this first section has the most stunning scenery I think. Especially love the smiley sunflower 🙂

      wisemonkeysabroad responded:
      October 9, 2014 at 1:02 am

Totally agree with you about the first section being prettier. We were having so much trouble pulling together the second part of the series for that reason. The second section of the walk is known as the “meseta” and pretty notorious for having nothing much except expansive plains…. so it was very hard to capture anything too spectacular.
We like the smiley sunflower too… 🙂

And yes those sunrises are amazing – every day is different. We had an incredible one this morning (to be shared in the next series… once we have finish another 12 days)… 😉

When you get back home and put your feet up, your photos will certainly remind you of the out-of-the-ordinary thing you accomplished!

In the photo of the cut-out figures, are those notes people have left on the horizontals, or just part of the sculptures?

      wisemonkeysabroad responded:
      September 21, 2014 at 5:08 pm

Even looking back at them now as we selected these – the earlier photos seem like a lifetime ago! It seems like so much has happened since we started! But what a rewarding experience every day when we tally up the distance we have walked and our experiences 🙂
Those little white things are part of the sculptures!
There are places along the way, where people do leave notes etc….

Oh Marie, you simply cannot imagine how utterly peaceful it is. We are now in Burgos where it is a city-city and the hustle and bustle is making us feel very out of place! Even the trucks and cars on the highways seem so much louder 🙂
