weekend walks: cape banks circuit
Don’t let the blue skies and sunshine fool you. The temperatures had dropped and there were very high winds for our walk. There were certainly high swells when looking out at sea.
The Cape Banks Circuit was a really pleasant walk that covered about 7.3km. We started at Congwong Beach before stumbling accidentally onto a nudist beach. As you can imagine, we were a little overdressed (excuse the pun).
When we managed to get back on the right track, we worked out way to Henry Head, through dead forests and dense bushlands. Once we arrived at Henry Head what we saw was gorgeous coastline and a WWII battery and fort.
From Henry Head, we walked along the coast and cliff where it was all unfenced. With winds as strong as they were, we stayed well on the track towards Cape Banks Bridge.
This last photo is us leaving Cape Banks behind. As always, our walk was not dull 🙂
Walking back to where our car was parked, there was a snake presentation on. It was extremely educational and we really wished we had heard this talk before we encountered snakes on our walk at Manly Dam
The start of this walk is in La Perouse which is approximately 14 km south-east of Sydney.

I am reminded of the joke about the professor who was supposed to give a lecture at a nudist camp…to show solidarity, he turned up nude, only to find that the audience had come fully dressed, to make him feel comfortable! 😀 Place looks awesome!

I will remember this walk for the future. Our daughter lived for a couple of years at Maroubra and this walk would have been perfect. We did do the Coogee to Bondi coastal walk and it was gorgeous.

I remembered after I clicked reply on this comment that we actually started our walk from Maroubra, which added about 1 1/2 km to the walk, but it was such a lovely July day that it didn’t matter. I wrote about it too. We finished with a magnificent sunset at Bondi.

This stunning coastline is about 20 minutes drive away!
It was so spectacular experiencing it with high winds so we could see the waves crashing on the rocks!!

your walks are truly NEVER dull – and whew, this has to be some of the prettiest water I have ever seen – that aqua marine blue is one of my favs – and whew – enjoyed this much. the variety 🙂 and the one photo I can almost feel the mist….

Beautiful photos… love the vivid color! Judging from the spray blowing off the waves, it does look windy!
However, you had two things in your favor:
1. It wasn’t raining (that plus high winds can make for a miserable experience)
2. You weren’t hanging things out to dry … so to speak.

We actually felt a little guilty that we have SO much in our backyard that we take for granted and have not yet explored! Since we started our weekend walks regular segment, we have switched on our traveler/tourist eyes and have discovered so many great things about our city! We now look at Sydney with a very different perspective.

I think it’s quite common though – people want to go out and see the world, because you know your homeland will always be there! People in Japan are always surprised when I tell them I haven’t been to Ayres Rock. But at the same time, I’ve been to loads more places in Japan than most Japanese people have!

Gorgeous…Thanks for bringing me around Sydney with you….you have just reminded me of my story at a nudist beach when I was at Watson’s Bay…it was…..hmmm, something worth checking out, I suppose??? Hahaha…:)

LOL – Let’s just say we were NOT expecting that. We found that beach so secluded and so peaceful. We felt like it was our private beach until we saw who else we were really sharing it with 🙂
